The exhibition by Yane Calovski and Hristina Ivanoska at Apoteka – space for contemporary art, Prologue (a form of question) is a first part of a complex process and exhibition series developing through the project A Form of Answer, the artists plan to develop in three chapters – three exhibition spaces in different cities and/or countries, in art institution of a different format and profile such as a museum and an independent space: Apoteka – space for contemporary art (Vodnjan), Museum of Contemporary Art (Zagreb) and Press to Exit (Skopje).
A form of answer is a work in progress, envisaged to gather and map individual, conceptual and collective interests of artists focused on their own artistic production, as well as the institutional context in which the artists are working. It raises broader questions of artistic work.
The first stage of Prologue focuses on forms of female work, textile design, emancipation of/through the work process, by adopting and analyzing conceptual and formal procedures shaped by three artistic and discursive positions: Otti Berger, Anette van Eyck and Simone Weil.
The artistic practice of Yane Calovski and Hristina Ivanoska is complex and contextual. It focuses on issues and concepts of architecture, history and art theory, political reality, in order to create new scenarios and new knowledge. The works are realized in different media from drawings, texts until objects, installation and video.
Yane Calovski and Hristina Ivanoska are internationally renowned Macedonian artists. They represented Macedonia on the Venice Biennale in 2015.
Individually and together they took part in a large number of solo and group exhibitions in international museums and galleries – Kunsthalle Bregenz, Salzburger Kunstverein, Akbank Art Center, Istanbul; Tate Britain, London; European Kunsthalle, Cologne; The Drawing Center, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art – Skopje, ŻAK | BRANICKA Gallery, Berlin; National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC), Bucharest.
The project is realized in cooperation with the Association Nomad.
Yane Caloski and Hristina Ivanoska are currently artists in residence at the Adriatic Hotel in Rovinj.
Part of the artistic production presented at Apoteka was realized in Sculpture Space Utaka (USA) and supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
