The second chapter of Temporary encounters brings 34% green on white, a photograph by Igor Eškinja representing a dialogue with the exhibition space, suggesting mechanisms of representation behind the relationships between images, perception and three-dimensional space.
The works by Igor Eškinja are characterized by spatial interventions that result in seemingly complex structures, and are based on the transfer between two and three dimensions and tensions between physical reality and sensory spheres, imagination, perception, materiality and dematerialization.
The photograph 34% green on white represents presumably an empty gallery space. Empty pedestals are placed in the center of the scene, focusing on its emptiness. They represent the place where meaning is produced – three gallery pedestals connected by a layer of transparent geometric green shape linking their edges. The artist engages pedestals, the “invisible” gallery prop, as something that we take for granted, and makes it visible. In this way, a neutral conventional object that allows the presentation of a work of art becomes the content of the work. The self-reflexive gesture in the work by Igor Eškinja focuses on space, objects and artistic process. His works the artist makes visible the invisible and hidden, points to the constructed character and dismantlement, reminding us about the artificial, constructed nature of the exhibition / media / artwork, as means of transformation of a discursive practice.
