Hrvoje Slovenc presents works selected from two series Partners in Crime and Home Theater, structured as one chapter of his project Marble Hill. Questioning traditional genres of art history such as portrait and interior, he explores cultural and social codes of domestic spaces, with or without the human presence. Such portraits equally represent portraits of protagonists or portraits of spaces, both framed by such “interior landscapes”. We recognize them as images where human presence is inscribed within. The title Home Theater frames the theatrical aspect and the construction of the scene, underscoring the “theatre of everyday life”, as well as a voyeur gaze aimed at people’s intimate spaces, revealing the voyeur character of photography.
