The exhibition Data Storage of a True Spectrum by artist Marina Xenofontos, who lives and works in Athens, will open on Friday, October 24 at 2 PM at Apoteka – Space for Contemporary Art in Vodnjan.
“Data Storage of a True Spectrum” consists of shards of compact discs spinning on a motorized axis, refracting rays of sunlight that scatter across the gallery wall.
Inspired by an illustration from a children’s science book, Xenofontos transforms a simple experiment into a shimmering installation in which industrial waste becomes a prism of spectral light. The work explores memory and obsolescence, turning discarded digital media into a luminous archive that resists invisibility. Data Storage of a True Spectrum reflects Xenofontos’s ongoing fascination with the material remnants of technology, revealing how outdated media can still evoke wonder and spark new perceptual experiences.
Marina Xenofontos is an artist working between Athens and Limassol. Her work engages with cultural memory, collective narratives, and the politics of display, often exploring the boundaries between public and private space. Her work has been exhibited at the Mint Museum, Fondazione Morra Greco, Kunstverein Hamburg, SculptureCenter, Palais de Tokyo, and the Baltic Triennial.
The exhibition is part of the 5th edition of the Industrial Art Biennial, titled The Vast Automaton, curated by independent curator Bani Brusadin, who lives and works in Barcelona (Spain), and Italian curator Giulia Colletti, currently based in South Korea. The Biennial will take place from October 24 to November 30, 2025, across approximately twelve locations in Labin, Pula, Raša, and Vodnjan.
